Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Its sequence corresponds to the 44-amino-acid form of human GHRH with a trans-3-hexenoyl group attached to the N-terminal tyrosine. This modification slows enzymatic cleavage and extends the peptide's activity relative to the native hormone. The compound is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and supplied as a lyophilized powder. Researchers classify it as a GHRH receptor agonist. Its structure places it in the same family as other growth hormone secretagogues that act on the pituitary.
Binding of tesamorelin to GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers cyclic AMP signaling and the release of growth hormone into circulation. Because the peptide acts upstream of the growth hormone axis, its effects are partly mediated by hepatic insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) production. The pulsatile character of endogenous growth hormone secretion is preserved rather than replaced. Whether amplified signaling produces effects beyond those of native GHRH remains an area of ongoing investigation.
Development work on the compound, originally designated TH9507, focused on conditions in which reduced growth hormone signaling is thought to contribute to altered body composition. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved it in 2010 for the treatment of excess visceral abdominal fat in adults with human immunodeficiency virus infection and lipodystrophy. Later research examined other populations, including adults with mild cognitive impairment, where a large trial did not meet its primary endpoints. This mixed record illustrates how a single mechanism can produce clear effects in one setting and inconclusive results in another.
Several related peptides act on the same receptor, including sermorelin, a shorter GHRH fragment, and modified analogs such as CJC-1295 and modified GRF(1-29) that are common in research settings rather than approved products. Tesamorelin differs from growth hormone itself in that it acts upstream, prompting the pituitary to release the hormone through physiological signaling rather than supplying it directly. Terminology in the literature distinguishes GHRH analogs, growth hormone secretagogues, and recombinant growth hormone, although popular discussion often blurs these categories together. Precise naming matters when comparing study results.

Physicochemical behavior is dominated by the peptide backbone. The molecule is hydrophilic and carries a net positive charge near neutral pH, owing to several arginine and lysine residues. In solution it adopts a largely unstructured conformation, and aggregation is a known concern for peptide products of this size. Oxidation of methionine and deamidation of asparagine or glutamine residues are the principal chemical degradation routes. These liabilities shape how the material is formulated, handled, and analyzed, and they explain why lyophilized presentations are common in research settings.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, built from 44 amino acids. Its sequence follows the natural human GHRH(1-44) backbone, with a trans-3-hexenoyl group attached to the N-terminal tyrosine. This modification blocks recognition by dipeptidyl peptidase IV, the enzyme that rapidly truncates the native hormone in circulation. The result is a molecule with a substantially longer plasma residence time than unmodified GHRH, which makes it practical for clinical and laboratory study.
Receptor-level activity begins when the peptide binds the GHRH receptor, a class B G-protein-coupled receptor found on pituitary somatotroph cells. Occupancy triggers Gs-mediated activation of adenylyl cyclase and a rise in intracellular cyclic AMP, which in turn promotes synthesis and pulsatile release of growth hormone. Because the compound acts upstream of the growth hormone axis rather than supplying hormone directly, its effect depends on intact pituitary function. Binding studies in cell culture and animal models have established this pathway; the detailed kinetics of receptor recycling in humans remain less well characterized.
The DRV also invaded and occupied portions of Laos to assist in supplying the Viet Cong guerrillas fighting in South Vietnam. This war gradually escalated into the Second Indochina War, more commonly known as the Vietnam War.
Growth factor receptor-bound protein 14 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GRB14 gene. The product of this gene belongs to a small family of adapter proteins that are known to interact with a number of receptor tyrosine kinases and signaling molecules. This gene encodes a growth factor receptor-binding protein that interacts with insulin receptors and insulin-like growth-factor receptors. This protein likely has an inhibitory effect on receptor tyrosine kinase signaling and, in particular, on insulin receptor signaling. This gene may play a role in signaling pathways that regulate growth and metabolism. Transcript variants have been reported for this gene, but their full-length natures have not been determined to date.
=== Site selection and planting === Blackcurrants can grow well on sandy or heavy loams, or forest soils, as long as their nutrient requirements are met. They prefer damp, fertile but not waterlogged ground and are intolerant of drought. Although the bushes are winter hardy, frosts during the flowering period may adversely affect the yield and cold winds may restrict the number of flying insects visiting and pollinating the flowers. A soil pH of about 6 is ideal for blackcurrants and the ground can be limed if the soil is too acidic. Planting is usually done in the autumn or winter to allow the plants to become established before growth starts in the spring, but container-grown stock can be planted at any time of year. Two-year-old bushes are usually planted but strong one-year-old stock can also be used. Planting certified stock avoids the risk of introducing viruses. On a garden scale the plants can be set at intervals of 1.5 to 1.8 m (5 to 6 ft) or they can be set in rows with planting intervals of 1.2 m (4 ft) and row separations of 2.5 m (8 ft) or more. In the UK, young bushes are generally planted deeper than their initial growing level to encourage new stems to grow from the base.
=== Males === While anorexia nervosa is more commonly found in women, it can also affect men, with a lifetime prevalence of 0.3% in men. However, a lack of awareness of eating disorders in males may lead to underdiagnosis and underreporting. This can include a lack of knowledge about what kinds of behaviors males with eating disorders might display, as they differ slightly from those found in females, with a 2009 survey showing that females are more inclined to report fasting, body checking, and body avoidance, whereas males are more prone to report overeating. Due to this limited knowledge of how anorexia nervosa is presented in males, it often takes men longer to be diagnosed and receive treatment than women. An additional difference is in the use of supplements to affect bodyweight, with women being more prone to using diet pills and men being more prone to using anabolic steroids. Moreover, men who exhibit symptoms of anorexia may not meet the BMI criteria outlined in the DSM-IV due to having more muscle mass and therefore a higher bodyweight. Consequently, a subclinical diagnosis, such as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (ED-NOS) in the DSM-IV or Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED) in the DSM-5, is often made instead. Men with anorexia may also experience body dysmorphia, reporting their bodies to be twice as large than in actuality, and body dissatisfaction, especially with regard to muscularity and body composition. Men tend to place more emphasis on a muscular build as opposed to pursuing thinness.

== Target == Phrixotoxin-1 and -2 bind to A-type, transient, voltage-gated potassium channels, near the S3 and S4 segments, where they negatively affect transmembrane movement of the voltage sensing domain in response to depolarizing voltages. They bind preferentially to the closed or inactivated state of Kv4.2 and Kv4.3 channels(Chagot 2004). Phrixotoxin-3 (PaurTx3) inhibits several voltage gated sodium channel subtypes (Nav1.1/SCN1A, Nav1.2/SCN2A, Nav1.4/SCN4A, Nav1.5/SCN5A, and Nav1.8/SCN10A) (Bosmans 2006).

=== Drainage === Aqueous humor is continually produced by the ciliary processes and this rate of production must be balanced by an equal rate of aqueous humor drainage. Small variations in the production or outflow of aqueous humor will have a large influence on the intraocular pressure. The drainage route for aqueous humor flow is first through the posterior chamber, then the narrow space between the posterior iris and the anterior lens (contributes to small resistance), through the pupil to enter the anterior chamber. From there, the aqueous humor exits the eye through the trabecular meshwork into Schlemm's canal (a channel at the limbus, i.e., the joining point of the cornea and sclera, which encircles the cornea). It flows through 25–30 collector canals into the episcleral veins. The greatest resistance to aqueous flow is provided by the trabecular meshwork (esp. the juxtacanalicular part), and this is where most of the aqueous outflow occurs. The internal wall of the canal is very delicate and allows the fluid to filter due to the high pressure of the fluid within the eye. The secondary route is the uveoscleral drainage, and is independent of the intraocular pressure, the aqueous flows through here, but to a lesser extent than through the trabecular meshwork (approx. 10% of the total drainage whereas by trabecular meshwork 90% of the total drainage). The fluid is normally 15 mmHg (0.6 inHg) above atmospheric pressure, so when a syringe is injected the fluid flows easily.
Campbeltown, a small western coastal town, was once home to over 30 distilleries but now has only three in operation: Glen Scotia, Glengyle, and Springbank. Characteristics vary, but in general, the whiskies are described as "fruity, peaty, sweet, smoky" by the national tourist board; another source published by a marketing company also mentions the "flavor of wet dog, also called wet wool". The Highlands: The Highlands is by far the largest region in Scotland both in area and in whisky production. This massive area has over 30 distilleries on the mainland. Region characteristics: "fruity, sweet, spicy, malty", according to the national tourist board. When the Islands sub-region is included, the total number of distilleries is 47. Some Highland distilleries: Fettercairn, Aberfeldy, Edradour, Balblair, Ben Nevis, Dalmore, Glen Ord, Glenmorangie, Oban, Glendronach, Old Pulteney, Tullibardine and Tomatin. The Islands, an unrecognised sub-region of the Highlands, includes all of the whisky-producing islands other than Islay: Arran, Jura, Mull, Orkney, Raasay and Skye: with their respective distilleries: Arran, Jura, Highland Park, Scapa, Raasay, Talisker and Tobermory. Islay : has nine producing distilleries: Ardbeg, Ardnahoe (the most recent), Bowmore (the oldest, having opened in 1779), Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin, and Laphroaig. Region Characteristics: distilleries in the south make whisky which is "medium-bodied ... saturated with peat-smoke, brine and iodine" because they use malt that is heavy with peat as well as peaty water.

Antibiotic disks are used to test the ability for an antibiotic to inhibit growth of a microorganism. This method, which is commonly used with Mueller–Hinton agar, is used by evenly seeding bacteria over a petri dish and applying an antibiotic treated disk to the top of the agar. By observing the ring formed around the disk formed due to the lack of bacterial growth, the zone of inhibition can be found, which is used to find the susceptibility of an organism to an antibiotic.
On October 20, 2011, one month before the Spanish general elections in which the nationalist left wing was running within the Amaiur coalition, ETA announced the definitive abandonment of the "armed struggle" which opened a new political scenario in the Basque Country.
Such a view is in contradiction of the "Open Design" principle of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Guide to General Server Security which states that "system security should not depend on the secrecy of the implementation or its components", which can be considered as a reiteration of Kerckhoffs's principle.
Despite the likely increased volcanism from early plate tectonics, the Earth may have been a predominantly water world between 4.4 and 4.3 Gya. It is debated whether crust was exposed above this ocean. Immediately after the Moon-forming impact, Earth likely had little if any continental crust, a turbulent atmosphere, and a hydrosphere subject to intense ultraviolet light from a T Tauri stage Sun. It was also affected by cosmic radiation, and continued asteroid and comet impacts. The Late Heavy Bombardment hypothesis posits that a period of intense impact occurred at 4.1 to 3.8 Gya during the Hadean and early Archean eons. Originally it was thought that the Late Heavy Bombardment was a single cataclysmic impact event occurring at 3.9 Gya; this would have had the potential to sterilize Earth by volatilizing liquid oceans and blocking sunlight needed for photosynthesis, delaying the earliest possible emergence of life. More recent research questioned the intensity of the Late Heavy Bombardment and its potential for sterilisation. If it was not one giant impact but a period of raised impact rate, it would have had much less destructive power. The 3.9 Gya date arose from dating of Apollo mission sample returns collected mostly near the Imbrium Basin, biasing the age of recorded impacts. Impact modelling of the lunar surface reveals that rather than a cataclysmic event at 3.9 Gya, multiple small-scale, short-lived periods of bombardment likely occurred.

It mirrors the 44-residue form of human growth hormone-releasing hormone. A hexenoyl group on the N-terminal tyrosine distinguishes it from the unmodified hormone. The change is intended to improve resistance to enzymatic breakdown.
The N-terminal modification reduces cleavage by circulating peptidases, so the peptide persists longer than native GHRH. That persistence is the main rationale for the synthetic design. Comparative half-life values in humans are reported in regulatory review documents rather than in general reference literature.
Reductions in visceral adipose tissue have been measured in controlled studies of defined populations. Whether the effect generalizes to other groups and persists after treatment stops is less clear. Longer-term outcome data remain limited.
It is a synthetic peptide built from 44 amino acids arranged in the same order as human growth hormone-releasing hormone. A short fatty-acid chain, described as a trans-3-hexenoyl group, is attached to the first amino acid. The finished molecule is formulated as a sterile powder that is dissolved before use.
